DeleteMy musical hint for #5 was 'musical'. I was recalling an old NPR puzzle about the musical 'Oliver!' that employed the same trick of inverting an 'i' to get a '!' (or vice versa).
'Also' (avoiding using the word 'and'), a 'treble' (sounds like 'trouble') clef looks a bit like an ampersand.

ReplyDeleteMom and I are fine. We just got back from a new place in town called "Main street Market". My oldest niece Morgan works as a waitress there, so Bryan and Renae and Mia Kate wanted to go visit her and try the food. I didn't even know Mom and I would be coming too, until earlier this afternoon, when Mia Kate texted Mom. Mom and I had already gone grocery shopping earlier this week(Aldi on Monday, Food City on Wednesday), and after we got back Mom had told me that, considering how much groceries we had bought at both places on both days, we really couldn't be affording to go out to eat much anymore for the time being. So, like a fool, I didn't bother to shower or do any laundry last night to be able to go out tonight. If anything, I just assumed even if they did want to go out this evening, Mom would probably let them down easy and just say no. Well, imagine my surprise when, after Mia Kate's text, Mom decided we should go, too! And I couldn't really take a shower or do laundry that fast before time to go, so I just made sure to put enough deodorant on and I just threw something on that still needed to be washed, and then I hoped for the best.(And yes, I did brush my teeth and use mouthwash and wash my face, but I usually do that anyway, so I didn't really feel it was necessary to mention it earlier.)Anyway, Bryan sent Mom their menu online, and she read out loud what all they had(which was a rather limited selection, BTW), and I said I'll just wait and look over the menu when we actually get there. So we got there a little later, and the menu was just as limited as Mom made it sound. It had "craft soda" listed, but Morgan informed us that it wouldn't be the regular soft drinks to which we're accustomed. Still, she said I could go look over their selection in their refrigerator, but the easiest thing would be for her to just bring some water(which came in a big bottle, and I had finished it all by the end of the meal!). So I just drank water with the meal. Mom had suggested I get the glazed chicken, which comes with potatoes and leeks(onions), and either a house salad or a cup of soup. There was also a blackberry dessert that would also come with it, but I thought the profiterole tart listed under "Desserts" sounded much better, so I had the salad, entree/sides, and my choice for dessert. And it did not disappoint, not one bit of it, not even the leeks(which were a little hard to cut, but were still good). Only thing I had trouble with were the little bread bites for the whole table, which were a little too crunchy, but I still ate them. I let Mom eat all the little tomato slices from my salad, and she actually ordered a "steak salad", which she wasn't too crazy about. She said the vegetables were a little too small, and the steak was a bit hard to cut or chew. Nevertheless, she brought home the leftovers. I actually thought her croutons were pretty good, considering how the aforementioned bread bites were. I think Bryan and Renae both had some kind of pork dish, and Mia Kate had some pasta(sort of like mac 'n' cheese, but not exactly). She brought her pasta home as well. All in all, it may be a bit much for the regular Jasper crowd, but I liked it myself. Mom told me on the way home we probably wouldn't be coming back all that often, though. Oh well. We've got enough groceries to last a few months at least! No problem there! We also might not be celebrating the 4th all together, BTW. Mia Kate said she'd be spending it at "The Riveras'"(Renae's sister and her husband Ed, and their children). Just sitting around(and occasionally swimming in)the pool. To the best of my knowledge, no one else there at the table was invited. End of Part 1.

ReplyDeleteSo far I've only solved Appetizers #1 and #4(the latter represents quite a different take on the same wordplay from the original puzzle created by Bobby Jacobs, according to the text). I might also have the answer to the Schpuzzle as well, although while the last name if the Roman governor(if I am in fact right)does become a type of exercise when the S is added to the end, I can't seem to get anywhere with the first name. Hopefully there will be some clarification later, when the rest of Puzzleria! finally does appear, and the subsequent hints are sure to follow as well. BTW The only thing I am sure about with the Hors d'Oeuvre is that it is spelled BARNEY, with an E. I thought everyone knew that!
Good luck in solving to all, and please stay safe, and let's all be thankful that the "comment is too long" notification did not appear too many times for me as I was trying to publish Part 1. Cranberry out!

I haven't solved it yet, but I think there's something confusing about the Slice. I think I have the right novel, but a "Q" only appears once. Should the instructions state to use each word once, but then you have the title twice?

The order was part of a Nodd solution recently.
2. The movie can't be "Spider-Man" since it doesn't have what most two-word titles have.
3. The two added letters are both vowels, making a total of eleven letters to arrange.
4. The second word in the drink sounds like the first initial of a musical group of that musician, which group is often referred to by its initials.
5. The solution won't look right if the name is written in all upper case letters. Neither does the politician, regardless of how the name is written.

Once I've got the first two names in Entree #1, there is only one letter left(based on the puzzle-maker's name). Perhaps you should have said something about Hester Prynne for that last one. Once I've got Vincent Furnier's stage name(misspelled), the hubby's first name is still there, but now only the middle letter of the twin brother's first name remains. Got all Entrees except #5 and #7, nothing new with the Appetizers, got the Dessert(which surprises me, too!). Still having trouble with the Schpuzzle and the Slice(already saw the hint for that one, will undoubtedly need much more information on the novel itself than just its author's monogram).

SOLUTION: Private (remove v and replace it with m) & Primate
[Note REGARDING #1: Primate is the taxonomic order which applies to humans, from which group most members of the military are arguably drawn. The suggested image hints at Roman numerals. The word "Former" in the caption hints at ex-, sounding like X, Roman numeral for 10. Both ten and 10 appear within the caption. "No 10" could be read as Number 10. "Primate" was part of a solution in a Nodd Riff recently. Reference to it could provide a hint if needed.]
